Throughout the year, we read to get our students involved in world events to show how they impact the world. The courage/resiliency unit is used in conjunction with this and is an ongoing yearly unit to help reinforce how their character can impact the world around them.
This project will help our students take on more responsibility for their actions and to be critical thinkers in the world around them. We read The Giver, The Outsiders, Touching Spirit Bear, Liberation of Gabriel King, and much more, which all focus on taking stands and making changes. We need these resources to make this possible and connect everything together, so our students feel they are a contributing factor in their community, state, and government.
