I intend to use the magazine subscriptions as a way for students to create solutions to the problems read in the stories. Having students be part of the dialogue will enable them to improve their discussion skills and creatively think of solutions in a collaborative way with their peers. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding and competency in critical thinking/writing.
By implementing Socratic Seminars, my students will ale to engage in meaningful discussions and develop effective listening skills. Part of learning a new language is listening but often young learners gravitate towards voicing their opinions. The engaging stories read will encourage students to not only think outside the box, but to also be more attentive, sensitive to other's point of view while becoming global citizens.
My ultimate goal is to teach our youth to become involve in the decision making process of rules/laws that affect their lives. A generation of life-long learners, is a generation of open-minded individuals who promote, respect and understand that diversity should not be feared but embraced.
