I teach in Title 1 school in a high poverty area of New York City.
The majority of my students are Hispanic and Black, and have more responsibility than they should have at such a young age. I also teach Special Education students with a variety of learning and behavior struggles. Many of the students families are already struggling to support their children's basic needs that school supplies and other needs fall to the bottom of their list.
