I want to create a Quarter Hour Game Club--where students can come to the library and play a game with their friends in fifteen minutes or less--the time they have after they finish their lunch. Card and board games that can be played quickly offer these students in-person interactions with old and new friends.
Quarter Hour Game Club will offer students a chance to unwind while practicing social-emotional skills not overtly taught in core classes. These games build multiple skillsets: time management (they will want to finish a game before they have to head back to class), communication (asking questions to narrow the possibilities for Guess Who), decision making (which card to play in Uno), strategic thinking (Othello or any other competitive game), movement (yoga cards), and how to be a good winner and a good loser.
