The high school special needs students I teach in Prairie Village, KS encompass a variety of different qualities and unique learning abilities. Each student is served under Special Education; however, the way they learn and process information is what makes them determined to be successful. Within the walls of our classroom, we focus on not only academic skills but transitional skills needed to prepare them for post-high school. As our community grows, so does the Special Education population and the need to meet their educational needs in unique ways. My students love to participate in various activities, socialize, and require constant movement throughout the day, especially during class, in order to be successful.
