The couches I am requesting will help create a warm and inviting space for students to share their feelings with their school counselor. My office offers a variety of tools that my students can use in order to regulate their emotions - drawing materials, fidgets, sensory sand, play-doh and more. Right now, my students are given the options of sitting on wooden chairs, a "bouncy" seat, or on the floor. These couches will provide my students with a comfortable seating area that will make them feel right at home.
I imagine a space where a student can visit my office and know that this space is not like any other in the school. They know that when they are with me and in this space, they are safe to share how they are feeling and will be in the right frame of mind to discuss the challenges they are facing and be willing to work on solutions. My students would greatly appreciate your help...and so would I!
