The students in my class are in 10-12th grade and vary in their scientific background. No matter how they come into the class, I want them to have a hands-on positive experience in a science class. I try to relate everything we do in class to their lives. I take interest surveys from my students to find out what they want to learn about, what they know and how genetics has affected their lives already and change my course to fit their needs. They want to be in the lab, they want to try new things, they want to be able to gain skills that will make them marketable or better prepared to work in an undergraduate lab. I guess what I am saying is, I teach students that I believe need the unique experience of biotechnology.
