We ALL know by now that good things start with being healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In order for these students to realize their full potential and achieve greatness in and out of the classroom setting, they must have a healthy mind, spirit, and body. This starts with eating right and exercise! I have started a wellness committee comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who are committed to spreading the word about healthy eating and nutrition, but we need to do more!
"Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have." -Winston Churchill.
Our goal is to start a small exercise room within the school that can be utilized by the students during and after school to keep an alert mind and stress the importance of being healthy. The treadmill, bike, weight bench, and elliptical will be used mainly by health and physical education students in conjunction with the school-wide social and emotional learning program. This program teaches our students about self-confidence, stress relieving techniques, ways to handle anger, and healthier ways to deal with problems and emotions. I plan to teach students about building self-esteem and confidence and dealing with anger through exercise and strength training while setting the stage for a lifetime of healthy living.
