Scientific inquiry is necessary for students to understand fully the scope of the content they are learning. Hands on experience through laboratory experiments or demonstrations has been proven as effective tools through research-based data. Students will work in collaborative groups so that the sessions would be student-led and teacher monitored. I hope the students will gain more insight on these experiences by exercising their vocabulary and reading knowledge they attain. Application, Analysis and evaluation of content are the facets of Bloom's Taxonomy higher levels of achievement which I want to give them. Giving the students increased opportunities to learn better is what I hope to achieve.
For instance, the Microslide Viewer and accompanying slides would help the students further explore cellular structure, cellular processes and genetics which a vital part of their curriculum. The science books would be readily available in the classroom library for anchor activities. The Math Mysteries books may help incorporate cross-curricular activities in math and scientific inquiry. Also other items such as the rock collection, periodic table, chemical reactions lab would help cross-curricular learning across earth, life and physical sciences. Finally, the Demo-A-Day and DNA Extraction kit would further the use of hands-on experience for student-centered learning.
