Many of our students never have the opportunity to travel outside of our small, rural town. Reading is one way to broaden their horizons and to let them know the world is so much bigger than what they can see. These texts would introduce themes such as coming of age and the impacts our decisions can have on our environment.
We would love to put these books in the hands of our students who are starving for great texts. They would undoubtedly become engaged in the plot while learning essential elements of fictional text. The novel is also an excellent jumping off point for discussing the impact we have on each other as humans and how we can rise above our differences.
