I am requesting two lamps and a power strip. Our lights are wired into older, energy efficiency sensors. When we aren't moving around A LOT the lights turn off. After exactly eight minutes.
This isn't a problem for the majority of the day as most of our learning activities include tons of movement to keep students engaged and interested. However, this can make it difficult to read when students are practicing "Read to Self" or "Buddy Reading". These are opportunities where we focus solely on increasing our reading stamina. We choose a just right book, find a comfy spot, and start practicing our reading (with the goal of sitting in one spot and reading for 15-20 minutes)....only to have our lights go out on us a few minutes in.
When the lights go out is is too dark in our room to read and this becomes quite a distraction. Our teacher bought some string lights from a big box store after the holidays but having a couple of lamps would really light up our room and enable us to totally focus on reading!
