I have a kind, hard-working, intelligent, and thoughtful group of children. They are a diverse group of ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds, with a broad range of academic abilities. My students are driven to succeed and do well, regardless of challenges, and it is important that I am able to give them lots of individual instruction and the ability to problem solve at different levels of complexity. In order to meet these student needs, we were able to add an extra classroom to lower class size. However, there was not money in the budget to provide for the math materials and tools/manipulatives needed to match the curriculum. I have been scrounging old materials in order to make my lessons work, but it is getting tough as many of the materials are broken or just on temporary loan. My students value their math lessons and skill practice, and they respectfully care for our classroom materials. I would like them to have all the learning materials they need.
