I work with special education students in grades k-5 in a suburb of a large city. These students range in ability levels from barely being able write their names, to students who simply need extra support to learn. I often have students of various skill and ability levels in the same classroom, so differentiation is key.
Often these students do not like school. Many of them have found themselves struggling in regular education classes. Often they struggle to pay attention, and are often pulled off task by other students or situations. Sometimes they struggle because of emotional issues. Sometimes they struggle because, as this has been an on-going concern, they have been sent out of class, suspended, kept home, tuned out, or some other scenario which has led them to fall behind academically.
However, they are my kids, and I love them all!
