Students benefit greatly by having a book in hand while the teacher does a whole group read-aloud. They can make connections with words being read to the words they see in front of them. If each student has their own copy of the book, they are able to go back to gather information for the chapter summaries and learn to reference specific page numbers. They can also build their own personal vocabulary bank of words they want to learn. So much of students' work is digital these days as well, so it is nice for each student to be able to hold a book in hand, turn the pages, and read!
