My students are geologists & seismologists, anthropologists & authors, citizens & leaders, biologists & ecologists, entrepreneurs & economists, and electricians & engineers.
Among the 24 of them, they speak 13 languages and represent 18 countries. I teach 4th graders in a culturally and linguistically diverse neighborhood of King County. Some of my students are reading, writing, and calculating above grade level, while others are in school for the first time. All day every day teachers at our school use a variety of strategies to make learning comprehensible and meaningful to students who have experienced widely varying levels of opportunity.
