I work in an urban setting with students at the middle and elementary school level. My students have various disabilities which have impaired their motor, communication, and cognitive skills. The improvement of their life and adaptive skills are essential to them becoming functioning adults who can participate in and contribute to our community. My students work on a variety of skills such as tying their shoes, writing their names and preparing simple meals for themselves. This is all in the midst of academics, social interactions and everyday transitions from point A to point B. I want my students to have more opportunities to build their pre-vocational skills and social interactions to prepare them for living and working as an adult.
