We are a Pre-K Special Education classroom in Papaikou, HI that just began a class garden. Each week we are visited by Abigail, a teacher with our school garden program, for a lesson in nature-based science education. Our students are loving the opportunity to get outside for hands-on learning about such topics as birds, soil, growing flowers and food, and clouds, rain, and the weather. We are learning lots about healthful eating and how to grow our own food! In the coming months we hope to expand our program to include field trips to ADA-accessible botanical gardens, local farms, and even our local farmer's market! This will require financial assistance to help cover the costs of buses and admission for our students, teachers, and educational assistants. Thank you for your support in allowing us to take our learning out of the classroom so that our students can learn more about the natural world!
