As burgeoning young adults, my students are incredibly active, vocal, and anxious to experience classroom settings that allow them opportunities to deeply immerse themselves in something meaningful and relevant to their lives. They want the change to explore and interact with texts that intrigue them.
My students are fairly evenly split between white, black, and Hispanic. I teach students who are English Learners as well as students with special education needs. The majority of my students live near or below the poverty line. They look forward to coming to school and strive to better themselves and their learning practices.
In our class, we read in groups and independently every day. Many students look forward to reading time.
