The students are mostly very poor Hispanic Immigrants and African American. They move around a lot some have never been to school before. Their very eager to learn hands-on. Art is a way to escape for them. They feel they can be successful in Art because it's an expression that doesn't require language. Art is for the eyes what Music is for the ears. My students don't even have crayons at home the completely depend on the Art program for creativity. Some can't cut and paste, hold a pencil properly. Art is important on many levels for these children. We are always limited to crayons and paper. This would really help our students.
