Since Covid, students need hands-on learning more than ever. I have been teaching for 13 years. I have taught regular and special Ed grades prek through 8th grade. I currently teach kindergarten. My first year teaching kindergarten was pre-covid and I had three students on the state reading plan. This year, just two years later, I have 14 out of 24 on reading plans. Many of my students did not attend prek and had not even played with other children their age when starting in August. Students need hands-on learning that is play based to increasing academic, language, and social skills.
For my classroom this year, I am incorporating an interactive magnetic wall. For this wall, the magnetic items from lakeshore including magnetic coins, beginning sounds, word building, alphabet, addition, and base 10 sets, would help my students be engaged in calendar and our interactive sound wall. The rainsticks, weighted lap dog, and feelings board would be included in my chill zone for students that need a break when they are over stimulated. The play items including the posable people, the pony set, and the furniture would help with language growth and social skills.
The snap addition will help with addition as well as fine motor.
