My students are a very diverse group which includes Japanese, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian, Native American, Tongan, Caucasian, Portuguese, Filipino, Chinese, German, and Mexican ethnicities. They have equally diverse personalities. Some are outgoing, but some are quiet and reserved. Some are part of multiple clubs, while some are just part of Chess Club. Some of my students play sports like Football and Basketball for the school. They also have diverse abilities. Some are in honors/AP classes while others are in AVID. There are also students with special needs who play and love Chess.
Our school is in a rural community. Since it's creation, the school has gone through accreditation three times. Each of those processes has resulted in a six year accreditation. The school practices Inclusion, Data Teams, and Professional Learning Communities. The school is part of a Consortium and has adopted the Common Core State Standards.
