Hello. My name is Belinda Ortiz. I am fortunate to teach in an urban high school with a culturally diverse student population. Some of my classes reflect at least twenty different cultures and countries. Our school is (and was the first in LAUSD to become ) certified as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for grades 7-10. This program aims to provide our students a global perspective to grow as human beings, becoming more caring, reflective, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, balanced individuals who are thinkers, inquirers, communicators, and risk takers. Our students are eager learn and to apply their learning to their lives to make a positive impact on their world. Unfortunately, being a public school as part of the second largest school district in the nation, we lack sufficient financial resources to purchase materials to help support our students in expanding their global views.
