In the 21st century technology fuels the past, the present, and the future. The world of technology has totally changed how the teacher teach and how students learn. Technology shapes how students learn. Student prefer technology because it makes learning fun and interesting. Subjects thought to be hard, challenging, or boring become more interesting and exciting through a video or virtual lesson. In addition, technology allows for individualize instruction because it allows student to work at their own pace.
Fossils are a extensive unit of study for 3rd graders. Each year my students are fascinated with this unit of study. One activity that I have created for students is a web quest in which the students visit various links that I have provide on their quest to learning about fossils. Due to the limited number of computers in my class students are placed on a computer rotation to complete their web quest. Student are very excited to initiate this quest and can become somewhat disappointed when the availability of computers are limited. Upon completing the quest, students are required to complete a final project. This project could be a power point, commercial, comic strip, report, or video. Receiving chrome books would provide more computer access and flexibility in completing their web quests and other computer related projects or assignments.
Technology changes by the minute so as educators it is imperative that we keep up with the times in order to prepare our students for this ever changing world.
