Growing up in a low-income community where individuals did not consider education a priority, has motivated and inspired me to pursue a career in education. As an educator, I strive to become one in which students look up to after they have been looked down upon by many others.
I am currently a Middle School Math teacher at Sherman School of Excellence located in the Back of the Yards/Englewood neighborhood Chicago, IL. I am embarking on a journey of creating student led classrooms in which math discussions flourish. Students question and critique peer thinking and provide feedback to push peer potential. Through the access of appropriate resources, I am confident that my middle school students will pave their own path to college readiness.
