Children with Autism have multi-sensory needs which must be addressed throughout their learning and academic day. We can't always stay seated in our desks all day!
As a result I often use a large area rug, working with the students on transitioning as well as sitting in nontraditional spaces (ie on the floor or criss cross applesauce).
My students also need defined visual and concrete spaces, which having a rug gives them. I am incredibly thrilled to get into my new classroom and of course as most teachers know, we work all summer! So as I have started to arrange my room I have realized that we are going to need a rug, to help define our space.
