Since calculators are used on the Oklahoma state tests, my students need the opportunity to become comfortable using one. Using a calculator allows those students, who may have previously struggled because of a lack of basic fact memorization--those who have math anxiety from timed tests in elementary school--to stop letting basic facts hold them back in learning and applying new math skills. I want them to know that they CAN be good at math!
In this day and time, we all DO have a calculator with us all the time!
As digital learning takes over worksheets in the classroom, and at home, we need earbuds to limit noise and confusion in the classroom. We also need colorful supplies, like paper and markers, to help make math more exciting and fun.
