I teach in an urban area and my students face many challenges that come with this; single parent households, poverty, violence. The majority of my 7th and 8th grade students are African-American. All students in our school receive free/reduced lunch. We are a very small school with only about 450 students in our 7-12 building. Despite their challenges many of my students are working hard to get their education and hope to go on to college when they graduate.
