My classroom is filled with 23 hilarious, energetic, humble, and persevering first graders who are determined to attend college one day. Half of my class has migrated to the US in the last two years. Nearly 90% of students at my school live below the poverty line. Many of my students do not have English speaking or reading parents, and cannot receive academic help outside of school.
My students have dreams of someday becoming engineers, principals, teachers, lawyers, politicians, and artists. I feel that it is my obligation to prepare students for the city that is rapidly changing around them. To be prepared for success, my students need to have engaging and challenging learning experiences.
