My students have very little, to no, access to technology at home. In my school my students are able to get to use the iPad cart once every 2-3 weeks. Current research shows that knowledge of the use of technology not only helps students learn in a manner that helps them retain information better, but it also prepares students for future careers. My students love being able to utilize the technology to help them with learning new vocabulary as well as researching new topics. Currently, they have been researching the ins and outs of the upcoming presidential election and the candidates. We use my one class room computer to facilitate this learning and the iPads when we can use them. It is my hope to acquire 6 iPads with cases, and a charging station for a secure place for storage. I am requesting this equipment for my students to use in my classroom on a daily basis to support their learning. I wish to develop a love of learning in all my students, and to teach them valuable skills that will help them be successful later in life.
Through your generosity, my students will be empowered to explore their new language and build their knowledge base with the use of the classroom iPads. Here are just a few ways I propose to use iPads in my third and fourth grade classroom. Epic is an amazing application that is a great example of an app that would help my students develop an understanding of their new language. It is free to educators, and has thousands of books students can read. We do not have library classes, we only have the opportunity to exchange and select a new book once every two weeks. Epic would provide a limitless library.
