I teach a group of 24 amazing, kind, and motivated 7th graders. Most people cringe at the thought of teaching Junior High but I wouldn't choose any other group of kids to work with. Our school is family oriented and our classroom runs off of love, respect, and a strong community. When I started teaching, my library had four books and although it has grown, it is still not meeting the needs of my students. I have noticed the huge shift in student interest lately and while they love to read, they do not know how to choose books that interest them, especially since their selection is very minimal. As a teacher and mentor, I want to build a love for not only reading but learning and I think that really does start with books; it is one of the greatest ways we can expose ourselves to new words, ideas, and stories.
