My students are English language learners, from lower income backgrounds, most of whom speak Spanish at home. They are very inquisitive about what they are learning and academics are very important to them and their families. They love to participate in the classroom and are very engaged in the extracurricular activities held throughout the day. They make every attempt to fully be integrated into their classroom activities. Unfortunately, their English skills sometimes are lacking to fully grasp all of the content being taught in their homerooms. Since I'm the resource teacher, I provide ESL and Bilingual services to 3rd through 8th grades this year. The range of academic needs in this group varies. Having a leveled library in Spanish would allow me to provide them some resources that they could read and feel accomplished and successful in the language they read and comprehend the strongest in. It's important for students to feel that they are making significant gains.
