I teach a Life Skills program(High School level) in an urban setting where the poverty level is rampant. Additionally the city has a high percentage of students who are English Language Learners and have no English speaking parents or guardians at home. My students are special education students who's disabilities range from Downs Syndrome, Autism, Intellectual Impairment, and Developmental Delay to name a few. The focus of a life skills program is to prepare the student to have the ability, knowledge, and confidence upon leaving school to be able to function successfully in their community.
