The noise-cancelling headphones that I am requesting are higher quality and more effective than the typical, cheap,and easily breakable headphones that students will bring from home. Computer based programs are useful to students as they are interactive and fun, but when coupled with attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, I find many of my students to be distracted by the outside noise such as lawn mowers, trash pick up trucks, and farm activities in the school garden below our classroom. Even inside noise, such as student conversations, students walking past the classroom, are a distraction. Our classroom is located next to the cafeteria, and thus we catch most of the traffic (and loud chatter) of students headed to and from lunch. Noise cancelling headphones for every student would greatly minimize noise and improve computer based learning activities. For statewide testing, noise cancelling headphones for all 7 students who have to take it this year, would be especially helpful as these are high stakes assessments that require extensive periods of concentration.
