My students are often coming from challenging home lives and difficult situations. They make hard choices on a daily basis. I want them to be able to read the experience of Wes Moore as he explores his own life and choices and the experiences of another man with his same name whose life turned out vastly different. Through reading this text we will accomplish many tasks: exploring students' identities, choices and opportunities, researching large societal problems and possible solutions to those problems, expanding students' reading skills, and writing about topics that affect students' lives. This text is rich with opportunity for student growth.
