My classroom is a first grade classroom. I have a fairly even distribution of girls and boys with some being English language learners and special needs students. First grade is a special time. Students are very eager to learn and the foundations of life long learning continue to be built. Part of our classroom mission statement sums up best what first graders strive to be: We will BE readers, writers, problem solvers and leaders. Our school has approximately 450 students with about 85% being of low socioeconomic status. Providing the experiences needed to make my students be lifelong learners is of great importance.
