My students began the year significantly below grade level expectations. Most of my kids could not write their name, nor could they recognize letters. They also struggled to count to 10 and recognize numbers 0-5. Since then, my students have come a long way!! My students have limited resources at home and they lack exposure to creative, hands on learning activities. My school is located in the "inner city" area of Atlanta. My "kinder-kids" are great and lovable children. They are excited about learning but we lack the resources to make their learning experience fun, stimulative and enjoyable. I feel like I have to compete with the highly stimulative video games they play at home in order to gain and keep their attention. The materials I selected would enhance their learning while giving them joy. They have grown significantly since the first day of school and I want them to leave Kindergarten , "Ready for 1st Grade".
