First grade is very CRUCIAL! Most students are learning to read, MOST in my class, are learning the English language! They are new to the United States, coming from South and Central America.
Some of them have never been to school before! They are coming from Farm to School, or the Mountains to School, or even the Rain Forests to School!
It can cause some stress while they are trying to embrace this new world, new culture, they don't quite understand.
Having the necessary reading, writing, and math tools will help make a smooth transition for them and get them caught up with the other first grade classes!
