My students will use these cards to develop their oral language skills and vocabulary. These language skills will allow my students to share their ideas and thinking verbally at first and then as they gain confidence and experience they will eventually use it in their reading and writing.
Family engagement plays a critical role in my students' success, and I plan to provide parents with a set of these oral language cards as a resource. For some parents, these cards will help to develop their own language skills as they learn the vocabulary with their children. For many others, these cards will connect the vocabulary and language used at school to each child's home. I present several family workshops throughout the year--for families across different classrooms and across several schools ranging from Paradise Valley to Mira Mesa, San Diego. These resources will help to educate and empower families to continue my students' learning at home. These oral language cards are a necessary addition to my students take-home resource kit.
