Arts and Letters students are diverse, unique and love to be challenged. They approach learning with energy and enthusiasm. In class, they work well independently, in pairs and groups. Respecting each others thoughts, ideas and contributions creates a safe community where students are willing to take risks as learners. Arts and Letters is a community where children are nurtured by both teachers and parents. For a public school in a large urban school district, there is evidence that small schools can truly best support the diverse needs and interests of its students. Our school utilizes a project-based, integrated curriculum where students learn rich literacy skills and a strong STEM foundation through the pursuit of overarching research questions. Students are highly invested in the pursuit of these questions and learn the skills to best approach them through a combination of small group instruction, conferences, and differentiated station-based work.
