My class consists of about half girly girls and half busy boys. They are hardworking, respectful and well-rounded students. My school is in a high poverty neighborhood, where most of my students live in the local housing community. We have a plethora of activities and community festivities that we implement in our school. In my classroom, we have many books that cater to the girls, but lack a variety of books for the boys to enjoy. A lot of the boys in my classroom are struggling readers and they are reading one to two years below grade level. I truly believe if my classroom library had more books that appeal to boys, I may be able to get them to discover a love for reading.
