My students are a mixture of rural and urban with a high level of students that have disabilities, special needs, and many with ADD/ADHD. A majority of my students need to move in order to focus and learn. My entire class does whole body learning where movement in incorporated into everyday learning. Movements of the hands, arms, head, and even whole body form mnemonic devices for remembering steps in solving math problems, details to stories, thinking maps, and writing process.
My school is progressive and focuses on teaching the whole student; we have a social-emotional program involving riding and taking care of horses. Bringing the latest exercise and learning research into the classroom is only natural.
