Walking onto our campus, one feels at home and as if they are in their own backyard. Turn right down the hallway and you will find my students, crammed into a portable classroom full of traditional classroom furniture. The students know nothing different as this is their first classroom at their new school. They come in excited and eager to learn. They are hungry sponges. But some struggle. While I spent a lot of time and energy trying to make this box feel warm and inviting, it is still too restrictive for them to reach their learning potential.
