"Wonder" deals with acceptance and compassion, bullying and friendship, all of which my fifth graders will have to learn to deal with, or are already dealing with, in their young lives. Having individual copies of the novel "Wonder" will provide the opportunity to break students into discussion groups, reinforcing the concepts of collaboration and communication, as they work towards mastery of skills such as making inferences and comparing/contrasting.
While not only allowing me to teach the required Common Core Standards, students are able to relate to the characters and events in "Wonder", instilling in them a love for literature. I still remember fondly the books of my childhood that I was introduced to by my teachers, and I hope that with your donation I will be able to introduce a new group of students to the inspirational story of "Wonder."
