I teach in an ethnically diverse high-needs community, and without arts in the school, most students will never get the opportunity to express themselves in this manner. Empowering students through art with hands-on, creative, and artistic activities help students to focus and retain knowledge. A majority of my students are English Language Learners. These students depend on exploratory arts instruction to develop vocabulary, confidence, motor skills, and an opportunity to work out their thoughts through creativity. The more arts and crafts that teachers can bring into the classroom, the more opportunity they have to reach every child in the room. My students love to paint and express their creativity, but it is difficult without the proper supplies.
