My school implements time for D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read). Unfortunately the materials in my 8th grade Language Arts classroom are not relevant to the students. When it's time to read, there is nothing for them to do; therefore, they talk and become disruptive and distracting. I do not have the funds to stock the book case with what I know they will read. The books that have been provided for them are not engaging for them. I know that reading with consistency will assist in raising their Lexile Scores.
