The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will allow my students to engage in active play that represents them. This means a student can play with a baby doll that reflects how they see themselves. My students in walkers or wheelchairs can complete puzzles of people achieving challenging tasks.
Small hands struggling to build fine motor skills can play with easily accessible hand held dolls that represent them, their families, and their friends. I can build curriculum through puppets and books that show children of differing races and abilities. I can build a class culture of kindness and support that these children can translate into the larger community.
