An area that my students struggle with is reading. While they read the core texts that are required each year, they struggle with finding an independent reading book that is interesting and relatable enough to hold their attention. Unfortunately, the library in my classroom is not filled with enough books to grab the interests of my uniquely diverse students. These books would open their minds to new authors, characters, and a love of reading.
This project will encourage my students to find their passion for reading and writing through fiction texts. Students become stronger readers by reading, and I want each of my students to have that chance to grow academically. Additionally, the books that have been selected give my students a chance to experience a personal connection to a book as they relate to characters and conflicts. These books will give my students a new outlook on reading, and enable them to ask questions about the text and life.
