My 20 four year old students come from low income families in a high poverty Title I school. At this point in their school careers, they love to learn and are excited about reading. However, because they come from low income families who lack resources many of the children do not have literacy rich home environments and have had little experience with reading. Because of this, it is extremely important that I strive to enhance my classroom's literacy environment to give them a rich experience. We have many books in our classroom that we read to the children and even those that we read together. What's missing are the books that these young children can read by themselves.
