This is Cox Academy's third year of general music education, and I'm lucky to be in my third year teaching our 600 amazing, curious, and creative TK-5 students. We sing, play instruments, read books, and dance to express and explore music from many cultures and languages, as well as to learn self-expression and discovery within ourselves. 100% of our students are on free/reduced lunch and we feel fortunate to provide support and love to the whole student for academic, social-emotional, physical, and mental growth. In the music room, we build a safe space for all students regarding race, class, gender expression, sexuality, ability, immigration status, and more. We sing songs that remind us of this, and practice on the limited Orff instruments we have so we can perform school-wide concerts in the Winter and Spring. My students are excited to learn and are full of loving energy, ready to dive into the world of music!
