Many of my students come from families that are considered low socioeconomic status and they are faced with unique challenges daily. They do not have adequate learning materials or books at home. Most students enter Kindergarten without ever having been read to. The students in my resource classroom are not only disadvantaged economically, but they also have been found eligible for special education services due to a deficit in reading, math, writing, or language skills. Despite these challenges, my kids show up with a smile on their faces and a hunger to learn.
My students are highly motivated to learn about the world but have a lack of exposure. Our school has a wonderful staff with wonderful teachers who try their best to enhance the learning of each individual student. We are an AVID school, which means we believe each and everyone one of our students can and will attend college.
